Professor Samdhong Rinpoche, a highly learned Tibetan Buddhist scholar, who currently lives in India, turns 84 on 5th November He is regarded as the right-hand man of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. A former Prime Minister of Tibet&#;s “Government-in-exile” and former Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Professor Samdhong Rinpoche is still a very influential public figure in the Tibetan diaspora.

Lobsang Tenzin, better known by the titles Professor Venerable Samdhong Rinpoche and to Tibetans as the 5th Samdhong Rinpoche (born 5 November ), is a Tibetan Buddhist monk and former politician who served as the Prime Minister (then officially called the Kalon Tripa) of the cabinet of the Central Tibetan Administration, de facto Tibetan government-in-exile based in Dharamshala, India.

Venerable Samdhong Rinpoche was born in Jol, in eastern Tibet, Kham.

At the age of five, he was recognised, according to Tibetan tradition, as the reincarnation of the 4th Samdhong Rinpoche
